Did you know that València is the cradle of modern chess? This is one of the reasons why the Gay Games XII had to host this discipline. In 1495, the Valencian author Francesch Vicent published in the city the ‘Llibre dels jochs partits del schachs en nombre de 100’, a treatise which is considered to be the first manual of rules of modern chess.
